About the author
Alf h. walle.
Dr. Alf H. Walle
Of parents from the north (central Michigan), Alf H. Walle was raised in the Southeast (east Tennessee. He quickly learned to evaluate others using multiple yardsticks. Developing a love for and a respect of the culture of the Appalachian mountain people of the region, he eventually taught Appalachian Studies at Alice Lloyd College in the mountains of rural Kentucky. Raised in a segregated world and viewing race relations from the vantage point of a transplant, Walle came to understand that many good people have inherited bad ideas and that their decent character should never be overlooked. Exposure to cultural differences and the tensions rising from them, Walle developed a professional interest in traditional and indigenous peoples, resulting in M.A.s in social anthropology and cross-cultural studies. After completing a Ph. D. centered around folklore from the University at Buffalo (studying under Bruce Jackson and Leslie Fiedler), he earned a post-doctoral MBA. This eclectic background has allowed Walle to merge his humanistic and strategic visions by teaching business at the college level, culminating in a professorship of Tribal Management getting to work by bush plane above the Arctic Circle. Walle is an internationally respected business anthropologist pursuing a research agenda involving tribal management and the impact of economic development upon mental illness. These ideas benefit from Walle’s work as a state certified substance abuse counselor specializing in Alaska Native clients. Among his most rewarding experiences was serving on the tech crew of the Smithsonian Folklife festival for 7 seasons. Walle has published over 20 books of fictipon and non-fiction and innumerable articles
